The Student Affairs (National Institute of Fashion Technology Act, 2006) is an Indian parliamentary law enacted to establish NIFT as a statutory body under the Ministry of Textiles. The legislation granted the institute formal autonomy, making it the first institution in India empowered to award its own degrees in fashion education.
