Dr. Malini Divakala is a founding member of the NIFT Hyderabad campus and joined the National Institute of Fashion Technology in 1995 in the Department of Fashion Design. An alumna of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Vadodara, she further enriched her professional experience through a faculty exchange programme at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York.
 

An accomplished academician, mentor, administrator, author, and researcher, Dr. Malini has served NIFT in several key capacities, including Head of Faculty Training, Continuing Education, and Chairperson, Department of Fashion Design. She currently serves as Director (In-charge), NIFT Hyderabad. Her longstanding interest in Indian textiles and traditional crafts led to her doctoral research on Kalamkari of Andhra Pradesh, awarded by NIFT, New Delhi, in 2016. 

She has contributed research papers to international journals and presented at national and international conferences. She has also co-authored two books on Fabric Studies and Printed and Painted Textiles, published by CBSE and Kalakshetra Foundation, respectively. Passionate about India’s textile and cultural heritage, Dr. Malini actively engages in areas such as sustainability, textile and costume studies, innovative pattern development, and surface design. Her work bridges traditional knowledge with contemporary design practice, fostering responsible and culturally rooted design education
