Sujith K G is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Communication at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Hyderabad. He teaches Photography, Video Production, Fashion Journalism, Advertising, Visual Culture Studies, and Semiotics, and he mentors students through their research and graduation projects. His path into teaching runs through the industry rather than around it. Before joining academia, he spent close to seven years in editorial rooms, advertising agencies, and film sets, and he now brings more than eight years of teaching to the classroom. A UGC NET-qualified academic, he holds an MA in Communication with distinction from the University of Hyderabad and a BA in English from the University of Kerala, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Media Studies at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad.

His research follows a question that lies close to his craft: how the camera in everyone's pocket is quietly reshaping the way we see ourselves. His doctoral work, “Computational Photography and the Semiotics of the Post-Digital World,” examines how computational tools shape identity, memory, and self-presentation among a younger generation across the global south, from selfie culture to the hyperreal look of contemporary fashion photography. He has published on digital archiving and net neutrality in the International Journal of Media Studies and the Anveshi Broadsheet, and he has carried his ideas to conference audiences in Zaragoza and Geneva. Earlier in his career, he worked as a field investigator on an ICSSR-funded study at IIT Madras on professional ethics in higher education, and he photographed the documentation for the book Gendering Minorities, published by Orient Blackswan.

At NIFT, he has taken on responsibility well beyond the lecture hall. He led the Department of Fashion Communication as its head from 2022 to 2025, guiding a team of 8 and building the photography and multimedia facilities that students now use every day. He continues to teach New Media as visiting faculty at the Central University of Tamil Nadu. His documentary Clap with Me travelled to festivals at TISS and the University of Wisconsin, and he still makes time for the workshops and seminars that keep his own practice sharp. Away from work, he is happiest on two wheels, whether that means a long motorcycle ride, a trip somewhere new, or an afternoon spent writing, and those same instincts for movement, observation, and story find their way back into everything he teaches.
