Assistant Professor, Knitwear Design (BDes)
Hyderabad CampusDr. Md. Vaseem Chavhan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Knitwear Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Hyderabad. He specializes in textile engineering, technical textiles, knitting, nonwoven technology, textile testing, fabric structure and design. With more than twelve years of teaching experience and earlier industry exposure, he combines academic expertise with practical insight. He earned a Ph.D. in Textile Technology after completing an M.Tech in Textile Engineering and Management from NIT Jalandhar and a bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering.
His research focuses on smart and sustainable textiles, seam engineering, thermoregulating finishes, natural fibers, technical textiles, nonwoven materials, and predictive modeling using artificial neural networks. He has authored more than thirty research publications, edited one book, secured a Ministry of Textiles funded project under the National Technical Textiles Mission, and regularly reviews manuscripts for leading textile journals. He actively presents at national and international conferences and collaborates on interdisciplinary research initiatives.
Beyond research, he mentors students, supports curriculum development, contributes academic administration, and promotes industry engagement through workshops, invited talks, and collaborative activities. He enjoys exploring emerging tools, technologies, and knowledge sharing while encouraging innovation, sustainability, professional ethics, lifelong learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, creative problem solving, and excellence.
