NIFT  Hyderabad celebrated the 10th National Handloom Day with a series of engaging activities aimed at promoting and preserving India's rich handloom heritage. The event highlighted the importance of handloom in Indian culture and economy, fostering appreciation among students and faculty alike. 

Chief Guest and Dignitaries: 

The celebration was graced by Ms. Indira, Assistant Director of DC Handlooms on behalf of District Collector, Hyderabad. She was accompanied by Director Prof. Dr. Malini Divakala, Prof. Dr. Annaji Sharma (CAC), Mr. Avinash Raipally (Joint Director), and Mr. Shivanand Sharma (CIC). Their presence underscored the institute's commitment to handloom promotion. 

Activities Organised:

 1. Handloom Pledge: The event began with a handloom pledge, where students, faculty, and staff vowed to support and promote handloom products. This pledge, administered by CAC, defines NIFT community's commitment to sustaining the traditional handloom sector. 

2. Handloom Quiz: A handloom quiz was organised to enhance participants' knowledge about the history, techniques, and significance of handloom textiles in India. The quiz saw enthusiastic participation from students, showcasing their understanding of handloom heritage. 

3. Styling Competition for Students: Students designed and showcased contemporary outfits incorporating traditional handloom fabrics in a styling competition. This event provided a platform for young designers to experiment with and celebrate handloom textiles, blending traditional crafts with modern aesthetics. 

4. Cultural Performance: The event featured cultural performances, including traditional dances and music, celebrating the diversity of Indian handloom traditions. These performances highlighted the cultural significance of handloom textiles, narrating stories of different regions and their unique weaving techniques.

5. Ramp Walk by Students: A ramp walk by students showcased designs incorporating handloom fabrics. Students exhibited their creations confidently, highlighting the contemporary relevance of traditional textiles in modern fashion.

 6. Ramp Walk by Faculty and Staff: One of the day's highlights was a ramp walk by faculty and staff, who wore exquisite handloom textiles from various parts of India. This ramp walk showcased the elegance of handloom fabrics and demonstrated the institute's dedication to preserving and promoting handloom heritage. 

The celebrations concluded with a message reinforcing the importance of handloom in sustainable fashion and its role in empowering artisans. NIFT Hyderabad's 10th National Handloom Day celebration was a resounding success, reflecting the institute's dedication to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of India's handloom legacy. The event put up with the help of students under the guidance of CIC was greatly appreciated by the Director.
