1. "Strengthening the Karnataka State Khadi and Village Industries Board Brand through Integrated Product Mapping, Design Intervention, Product Diversification and Development, Training and Marketing Activities"
The journey of NammaKhadi started with the vision and zeal of the Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri. Siddaramaiah, to restore the pride and position of Brand Karnataka Khadi.
The project aims to strengthen the KSK&VIB brand equity and increase brand recall value of Khadi products, by a strategic mix of continuously monitored Design intervention, Product development & diversification, and integrated marketing activities.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between NIFT and KSK&VIB on the 30th of Dec 2014 by Sh. P.K. Gera IAS (then Director-General, NIFT) and Sh.Raghuram, CEO, KSK&VIB. The signing was done in the august presence of Sh. Laxmanrao A. Chingale, Chairman, KSK&VIB and under the mentorship of Sh.TusharGirinath IAS, the then Secretary-Industry and Commerce. This project consists of three phases, we are on the verge of successfully completing the first phase of the project.
A detailed baseline survey and diagnostic was conducted between the months of April 2015 to July 2015, and the report document was presented to KSK&VIB in the month of August 2015, which identified the strengths and weaknesses, environment that the cluster operates in and what strategic steps need to be undertaken for effective output. The diagnostic study was compiled into a report with the detailed SWOT analysis for each cluster.
Based on the recommendation of the diagnostic study, a panel of experts from NIFT Bengaluru provided a comprehensive list of products that may be developed for the current market. The NIFT Bengaluru team designed more than 400 products for the review, much more than the mandated 300 products. These were reviewed in the presence of Chairman, KSK&VIB and many artisans and the most viable products were selected for imparting training to the artisans.
The Products developed during phase-1 was unveiled, in conjunction with the NIFT Graduation show, 2016. We at NIFT Bengaluru have had an uplifting experience during the first phase of this project. The feedback from the stakeholders of this business has been very encouraging. We look forward to taking the endeavor into the next phase of the project and are hopeful that with the co-operation and the partnership of KSK&VIB, we would be able to position Brand Khadi effectively for the contemporary market at not only national level but also international level.1.
The proposal Trendstalk is a venture devised by Flipkart to provide trend and style directions to its vendors to give them design ideas for their new season collection through their micro-website. Flipkart vendors are efficient and eligible to manufacture fashion products but however Flipkart feels that they do not have adequate understanding of consumer psychology and fashion trends, to create saleable fashion products.
NIFT would play a role to analyze trends and forecast for domestic markets in product categories of Apparel & Lifestyle products and also provide design directions in terms of silhouettes, trims and accessories and appropriate value additions in the form of cue boards and tech packs for their vendors.
3. Employee Development Program for Max Employees on Visual Merchandising
The Employee Development Program (EDP) on Visual Merchandising has been designed to train 25 to 30 sales executives of Max Lifestyle stores across Bengaluru for a period of one year covering the same in 38 sessions. The curriculum development and training is conducted by NIFT internal experts. The main objectives of EDP programs are understanding of elements and principles of Visual Merchandising, understanding of application oriented VM techniques, Enabling articulation capability on current VM practices in stores, Analytical capability to improve the effectiveness of VM practices, Improvement of communication skills with consumer through better VM understating. 4. MDP on Digital Adobe Illustrator – On Job Training for Arvind Lifestyle Brands Limited
Fashion industry has been using Digital Illustration software for a long time. Recently, the software companies have come up with many up-gradations in their software, which enhance the productivity and the performance of a designer who uses these digital tools. The professionals from fashion industry require regular up-gradation of their skills on such digital tools. General-purpose software Adobe Illustrator was taught with a focus, which is appropriate and useful for specific industry requirements.
The objective of the project included training of the participants in Digital Design using Adobe Illustrator software in the areas like creating flat drawing, garment details and repeats, dockets, brushes, stitch lines, different accessories like zippers, buttons, prints and patterns, colorways, etc to adequately implement the constant emerging needs and activities.
The training sessions were targeted for Fresh, Middle and Upper Middle level designers for various brands under Arvind Lifestyle Brands Ltd, who make impacting decisions on product design and look for the brand
5. Training program sponsored by Backward Class Welfare Department (Karnataka)
NIFT Bengalore has been conducting every year (from the year 2014-15) have been conducting six months training program on Garment Manufacturing Technology under the Kaushalya Scheme (BCWD). The candidates are sponsored by Backward Class Welfare Department (BCWD) with a motive to generate employment opportunities for unemployed youths in Karnataka. These training programs have been successfully conducted by Department of Fashion Technology, NIFT Bengaluru under the coordination of Dr. Jonalee D Bajpai, Associate Professor. So far we have achieved 100% placement for last 3 batches in various positions with reputed companies like Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd, Texport Industries Pvt. Ltd, Laguna Clothing Pvtand Aquarelle India Pvt. Ltd. The fourth batch is on the verge of completion for the year 2016-17.
6. MDP on Garment Manufacturing Process for Texport Industries Pvt. Ltd.
NIFT Bengaluru conducted Management Development Program on Garment Manufacturing Process for Graduate Engineer Trainee for duration of 44 Days between July to October 2017. There were in total 6 candidates for the training. The main objective of this training was to offer the candidates an in depth knowledge of the fundamentals of garment manufacturing technology and to emphasize on the best practices in achieving operational excellence and productivity improvement for the company. The candidates were given an in depth knowledge on application different types of productivity improvement tool and application of industrial engineering. The training program was offered by Department of Fashion Technology (DFT), NIFT Bengaluru and coordinated by Dr. Jonalee D Bajpai, Associate Professor.
