Course Brief:
The candidates will get exposure to
- Week #1: Introduction to Natural Dyes, Eco-Dyeing process, Understanding the recipe, tools & technique of natural dyeing, Developing Single and double colour in T-shirts, Colour Fastness.
- Week #2: Introduction to Shibori, types of folds, understanding design, tools & instruments, creating patterns and application of Shibori in T-shirts, Project presentation.
Material requirement :
- White 100% cotton T-shirts 5-8 nos., old white fabric 1 meter, Alum (mordant) and natural dyes from kitchen forage and garden, needle thread for sewing, C-Clamp, old coins, any shape – any size wooden pieces (Preferably3”X3”) old stainless steel pots, stove, twine, rubber bands (big & small), scissors, Ruler, tailor’s chalk, old newspaper, notebook.

Habeebunissa is an Assistant professor of Knitwear Design at NIFT-Chennai, where she teaches, Dyeing & Printing as well as Design Research. With more than 17 years of teaching experience, she nurtures young minds on the wonders of exploring and extracting colours from kitchen forage and common herbs. Being an ardent admirer of nature, she enjoys practicing, researching and training exclusively natural dyeing with resist dyeing techniques.
