Rogan Art is a rare, freehand textile painting tradition. Artisans prepare a thick paste using castor oil and pigments, then create delicate patterns using a metal stylus. Traditionally known for intricate floral motifs and the Tree of Life, this craft represents generations of artistic skill and cultural heritage.
Nirona, located in Gujarat's Kutch district, serves as the historic home and main cluster for Rogan Art. Driven by the Khatri community, the village operates as a vibrant living heritage center dedicated to sustaining India's rare, handmade craft traditions.
Rogan Art is created on cotton and silk textiles, including sarees, stoles, scarves and decorative fabric panels. Artworks feature intricate floral patterns, traditional motifs and the iconic Tree of Life. Contemporary interpretations also explore new compositions, colours and distinctive artistic expressions.
