The Alumni
NIFT Gandhinagar alumnus Prabhat Kumar (B.Des) and NIFT Chennai alumna Megha Awasthy (AMIT) founded Knotty Things, advancing macramé as contemporary fibre art. With master artisans, the duo creates large-scale installations blending traditional knotting, precision, and material innovation.

Story behind the Craft Practice
Knotty Things works with macramé, a fibre art created by tying cords into intricate knots and patterns. The studio’s work is rooted in the skills of master craftsmen, including artisans whose livelihoods were disrupted when the pandemic affected export markets. By bringing these craftspeople back to their practice, the brand helps preserve their expertise.

Design Intervention
Knotty Things transforms macramé into large-scale sculptural and architectural fibre art, combining digital design with handcrafted precision. Using cotton cords, natural fibres, and metals, it creates immersive installations, wall art, and bespoke interior pieces.
