Story behind the Craft

The story of Rajkot Patola began with Rashtriya Shala, a weaving school established in Rajkot in 1951 by Karamchand Godhamdaas. After apprenticing with Patan’s Salvi weavers, he introduced Patola weaving to Rajkot's khadi weavers. They trained in single ikat and adapted traditional Patan designs, developing distinctive colour and material combinations that came to define Rajkot Patola.
