Story behind the Craft

The tradition of handloom wall-hanging weaving in Solapur is believed to have developed during the Peshwa period. The Padmashali community, traditionally associated with weaving, migrated from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to Solapur in the 1950s, bringing their knowledge with them. Over time, their weaving practices evolved into the distinctive textile art of Solapur wall hangings.
