Ramesh Vishwakarma is a fifth-generation artisan from Varanasi, carrying forward the traditional craft of Gulabi Meenakari. He learned the techniques from his father and gained hands-on experience from a young age. Today, he continues traditional methods while developing new designs and products to preserve Varanasi's rich artistic heritage.
Gulabi Meenakari is a traditional and GI craft of Varanasi known for its delicate Pink Meenakari work on silver and gold. Its speciality lies in the distinctive pink tones, intricate floral motifs and fine hand-painted detailing, reflecting the rich artistic heritage art of Banaras.
Gaighat is a historical Varanasi riverfront, known in scriptures as Gopreksha Tirtha and famous for its prominent Nandi sculpture. The city is a major heritage craft hub, world-renowned for exquisite Banarasi silk weaving, intricate Gulabi Meenakari (pink enamelwork), and traditional handcrafted wooden lacquerware.
The craft is used to create jewellery and decorative products such as earrings, rings, pendants, bangles, brooches, Rakhis, religious artefacts, showpieces and customised pieces.
Gulabi Meenakari is a family heritage passed down through generations. The craft is learned directly from senior artisans through observation and hands-on practice. Each generation carries forward the traditional techniques while adapting them to contemporary designs and products.
