The Craft

Lacquer art uses lac, a natural resin secreted by lac insects, to create decorative and functional objects. In Rajasthan, artisans heat, colour, shape and polish the resin to produce intricate designs. Traditional products include bangles and jewellery, while contemporary practice extends to musical instruments and decorative installations.
