Toda embroidery is a unique hand embroidery tradition practiced by Toda women. It is traditionally done on white fabric using red and black threads, with geometric patterns inspired by nature and our cultural heritage.

The Nilgiris is home to diverse indigenous communities, including the Todas, Kotas, Irulas, and Kurumbas. Their distinctive traditions, handcrafts, embroidery, music, rituals, and close relationship with nature form the region's unique cultural heritage, preserving centuries-old indigenous knowledge and identity.

I create traditional as well as contemporary products such as blouses, clothing, jackets, accessories and home décor. My vision is to keep this heritage craft alive, create opportunities for Toda women artisans, and introduce Toda embroidery to a wider audience while respecting its traditional identity.

Toda embroidery is passed through generations within the Toda community, practiced exclusively by women. Beyond decoration, embroidery strengthens social bonds and preserves cultural knowledge. The embroidered poothkuli shawl holds deep significance, worn during important occasions such as weddings and funerals.
