NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 2018

Registrations are now open for the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) International Conference on the theme 'Rediscovering Culture: Transforming Fashion' to be held from 31 January -2 February 2018 at New Delhi, India.

The 4 keynote speakers who will speak at the plenary sessions include Kate Fletcher (UK), Narendra Kumar (India), David Abraham (India) and Radha Chaddha (UAE). With Cumulus Association as the global knowledge partner, the conference is envisaged to be a platform for trans-global cultural narratives on relevant issues that transcend the regional to take on global significance. Itwill enable the sharing of interdisciplinarypractice-led researchperspectives and experiences to showcase a wide range of narratives on multiple aspects of fashion.Research paper and poster presentationswill traverse the historicity and contemporaneity of fashion with focus on clothing, textiles and craft sectors. Different modes of presentation will bring a new dynamism to the themeswhich include design empathy, sustainability, challenges and possibilities of changing the existing fashion practices through technical innovation in textiles and clothing, green production systems, innovative business structures in mass- and luxurymarkets. The pedagogy and potential of fashion and crafts education as catalyst in discovering culture and engendering societal change with inclusivity of the rural artisan community is a significant component.

In addition, there are collateral events that will enhance the India experience for delegates. This includes a Craft Demonstration, which, in association with Crafts Museum,will show selected Indian crafts promoted by a distinct 'Craft Demonstration' area at the conference. At the conference venue a Crafts Bazar and a digital Crafts Bazar are organized for delegates to shop for authentic Indian crafts and textiles. Shilpgurus, master artisans will demonstrate their crafts. A cultural show is organized with performances by Chhau dancers from Purulia, West Bengal and Gotipua dancers from Sakhigopal, Odisha.Delegates have the option of post-conference toursarranged by 'Breakaway' focussing on craft and textiles trails for an authentic experience.
