NIFT Hyderabad conducted Design Nucleus’2025 for young minds. A dynamic five-day summer workshop was successfully conducted from 26th to 30th May 2025. The program was conceptualized and delivered with the primary objective of igniting creativity and fostering innovative thinking among young minds. The workshop offered an engaging platform for participants to explore diverse facets of design, art, and creative expression.
The Design Nucleus ’25 commenced with an auspicious inaugural session led by Prof. Dr. Malini Divakala, Director of NIFT; Prof. Dr. K. Rammohan, Centre Academic Coordinator; Dr. Prithviraj Mal, Joint Director; and Dr. Sasmita Panda, Associate Professor. Ms. Jasti Pooja, Associate Professor & CC Fashion Design; Ms. Prachi Bajaj, Assistant Professor, Knitwear Design; Dr. Upasna Bhandari, Assistant Professor, Textile Design; and Ms. Madhupria Jha, Assistant Professor, Fashion Design, collectively set the tone for an exciting and immersive week ahead.
The core intent of Design Nucleus ’25 was to:
• Inspire young learners through creative exploration.
• Provide exposure to foundational and emerging concepts in design.
• Enable self-expression through hands-on activities and guided learning.
• Cultivate an appreciation for design thinking and problem-solving.
Highlights of Design Nucleus ’25
The workshop featured a well-structured curriculum encompassing
• Interactive design and art sessions
• Experiential learning modules
• Skill-building activities in creative domains
• Peer collaboration and guided mentorship
Each session was designed to balance foundational knowledge with practical application, allowing participants to engage deeply with the design process. A total of 31 students enrolled for the program within the age groups of 12 to 17.
Activities such as dress your croqui, dye your ‘tee,’ cultural connect through cheriyal, learn to batik, frame to frame (photography), etc., have kept the participants enthusiastic and engaged with the program.
Design Nucleus ’25 emerged as a vibrant and enriching experience for all participants. The success of the workshop reflects the dedication of the organizing team and the enthusiastic response from the learners. It reinforced our commitment to nurturing creativity and providing early exposure to design education for aspiring young talents.
NIFT Experience: Introduction and Ice-breaking
The program commenced with a warm and engaging ice-breaking session. Participants were introduced to the ethos of NIFT, its creative environment, and what lay ahead in the program. Fun activities were conducted to help participants get to know one another, build comfort, and spark curiosity about the design world.
Impact and Outcomes
Design Nucleus '25 successfully achieved its aim of inspiring curious young minds. The 31 participants demonstrated a tangible growth in their creative confidence, problem-solving abilities, and artistic expression. The workshop fostered:
• Enhanced Creative Thinking: Students were consistently challenged to think outside the box and generate unique ideas.
• Development of Practical Skills: They acquired fundamental skills in fashion design,
traditional art forms, photography, and color theory.
• Cultivation of Appreciation for Art and Culture: Exposure to Batik and Cheriyal
painting broadened their cultural horizons.
• Improved Self-Expression: The hands-on nature of the activities provided ample
opportunities for personal expression and communication through art.
• Nurturing Curiosity and Exploration: The diverse range of workshops kept the
students engaged and encouraged them to explore new interests.
At the end of the program, all 31 students were awarded participation certificates by Prof. Dr. Malini Divakala, Director, for their enthusiastic involvement and successful completion of the workshop. The positive feedback from the participants and the visible enthusiasm throughout the week are testaments to the success of Design Nucleus '25.
The workshop has undoubtedly planted seeds of creativity and curiosity in these young minds, encouraging them to continue their journey of exploration and innovation. The summer camp was a resounding success, inspiring participants to explore their creative instincts and engage with art and design in a meaningful way. It not only nurtured skill-building but also built lasting memories and friendships.
