Brief Introduction about the Department:

National Institute of Fashion Technology, being the pioneers of fashion education in India, takes pride in the co-curricular activities it has to offer to its students. The industry genre demands that the creativity and imagination of the students be nurtured for innovation to sprout in their psyche. The Student Development Activity Club (SDAC) of Kolkata leaves no stone unturned in order to provide its students a platform to showcase their talents and excel in the various fields of Sports, Culture, Literature, Social and Photography. The respective clubs conduct competitions throughout the year to channelize the vibrant energy of talent dynamism for them to excel and provide a wholesome educational experience and a remarkable college life. The finest ones compete against other centers and get a chance to represent Kolkata at ‘Converge’. They relive the sportsman spirit along with their peers at ‘Spectrum’, competing against other colleges of the city. The various activities intend to empower them to maintain work – life balance, face challenges and sail through them in the future. Keeping in sync with the vision of NIFT, SDAC ensures that the future forerunners are learned, culturally passionate, bodily fit and socially responsible beings.

1) Cultural Club: The Cultural Club of NIFT Kolkata is one of the most actively contributing clubs of the Institute. Their activities and involvement is not limited to a certain group of students but the entire college as a whole. Ranging from Independence Day to Spectrum, this club is always involved in some activity or the other. Be it dance, music or theatre; this club is always eager to encourage students to not only pursue their passion but also participate in variety of competitions and fests, displaying their talent. The Club also has a strong media presence.

2) Literary Club: Literary Club, NIFT Kolkata is a small space to nurture like-minded creative individuals who express themselves in infinite ways. We have a corner for everyone, book lovers to movie critics, and artists to curators. We hold a special place for every beautiful mind that comes to us. For years, our club has represented some wonderful talented people in various platforms across the city and country. Debates, quizzes, graffiti, editing, shot films and photography are some of the few fields we excel in. The best part about the club is that we are open to every new idea out there because we're always creating and innovative something each day. Literary Club has launched the NIFT, Kolkata Wall Magazine this year.

3) Environmental Social Service and Ethics Club (ESSE): The ESSE club of NIFT Kolkata actively organizes various social events such as blood donation camps, newspaper and clothes donation drives. Social club conducts trips and awareness sessions at Non-Government Organizations’ to sensitize students to aspects of socially inclusive growth. We conduct street plays, to create awareness in social issues ranging from Eve Teasing to Education of a Girl Child. We also celebrate a Swatch Bharat week promoting cleanliness in campus and in our minds. Health Week is a special initiative taken by the club. Camps are put up providing free of cost medical checkup and aid to the students and faculty.

4) Sports Club: The NIFT Kolkata sports club is a group of enthusiastic and hardworking students who participate indifferent competitions held all over the country. They are guided by dedicated faculties who are in-charge of the club. The students of the college have an option to learn and excel in a number of games including Cricket, Table Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, and Basket-Ball amongst others.
