Under a sponsored project of UT Ladakh, NIFT Srinagar is conducting a Training Workshop for Pashmina Artisans & Weavers at Leh, Ladakh from 8th– 19th July, 2021. The program is part of joint collaborative project between I&C Deptt, UT Ladakh & NIFT Srinagar to promote and develop crafts of Ladakh. The training workshop is aimed at design intervention and product diversification of Pashmina Shawls and other allied products.
While interacting with the participants, Sh R K Mathur, Hon’ble LG, Ladakh pointed out that the traditional crafts of Ladakh can provide decent livelihood to the community particularly the women artisans. He assured the participants that Govt of Ladakh shall take all measures to promote and re-align the crafts of Ladakh with the latest trends and market demands. While speaking at the event, Sh Umang Narula, Advisor to LG, Ladakh mentioned that crafts of Ladakh particularly the Pashmina products have their own brand image and Ladakh Govt is taking necessary steps to make the livelihood of Artisans prosperous.
The event was attended by Sh. Saugat Biswas, Secretary, Industries & Commerce, UT ladakh, Dr Javid Ahmad Wani, Director NIFT Srinagar, Sh Moses Kunzang Director I&C and other officials of NIFT & UT Ladakh. On behalf of NIFT Srinagar, the training program has been designed and imparted by Mr Zubair Kirmani, renowned Fashion Designer.
A formal MoU was also signed between NIFT Srinagar and I&C Deptt, Ladakh related to the craft project.
