Assistant Professor, Textile Design (BDes)
Gandhinagar CampusDr. Priyanka Kumari is an Assistant Professor of Textile Design, specializing in design fundamentals, traditional textiles, weave design, and print design. She teaches undergraduate courses and contributes to textile and design education. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Textile Design from Banasthali University, cleared NET and GSET in 2016, and also received UGC-BSR Fellowship, and completed her PhD from The MS University of Baroda in 2021. She joined NIFT in 2018, also served as Course Coordinator of the Foundation Programme at NIFT Bhubaneswar from 2019 to 2021. She served as Assistant Principal Designer at MRID, Faculty of Fine Arts, The MS University of Baroda from 2014 to 2018. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a Textile Designer in textile industry in Mumbai from 2010 to 2014.
Her research interests include design innovation, co-creation, weave design, colour studies, traditional textiles, and craft–material–design relationships. She has presented research at more than 10 international and national conferences and has 14 publications, including journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings. She also completed a research project as Principal Investigator funded by The MS University of Baroda. She also contributes as a conference reviewer and external examiner.
Dr. Priyanka Kumari is actively involved in academic mentoring, curriculum development, craft documentation, design experimentation, and material exploration. She is particularly interested in connecting traditional knowledge systems with contemporary design practices and fostering knowledge exchange among academia, industry, artisans, and creative communities.
