Gandhinagar CampusShrinivasa K. R. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fashion Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar, with over 28 years of experience in design education and professional practice. He joined NIFT in 2003 and teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students, with expertise in Design Fundamentals, Visualisation and Representation Techniques, Fashion Illustration, Product Illustration, Portfolio and Design Development, Art and Design Aesthetics, History and Philosophy of Design, Semiotics, Typography, and Calligraphy. Originally from Hassan, Karnataka, he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts (Applied Arts) from the College of Fine Arts, Mysore University (CAVA), followed by a Master of Fine Arts in Visualisation and Art Direction from Bangalore University and a Ph.D. in Visual Arts from Jain University, Bengaluru. Before joining NIFT, he worked in Delhi as a Visualiser and Art Director in the advertising industry and as a Textile Graphic Designer in the textile industries in Bengaluru. His professional and academic experience brings together visual arts, graphic design, visual communication, art direction, design education, and design thinking.
His professional interests focus on exploring and documenting India’s traditional textiles, especially textile traditions and crafts that are gradually disappearing. He is also interested in environmental studies, monumental photography, field visits, craft documentation, and calligraphy. These interests allow him to engage closely with India’s cultural heritage and its connection to craft, art, and design.
