Associate Professor, Fashion Technology (BFTech)
Gandhinagar CampusDr. Nupur Chopra is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fashion Technology at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar, with over 17 years of academic experience. Her areas of expertise include apparel merchandising, supply chain management, apparel production, quality management, process improvement, sustainable production, and textile and fashion systems. Prior to joining academia, she worked with Madura Garments Exports Ltd. in merchandising and process control and with Intertek Testing Services, where she was involved in compliance and product testing for leading global brands sourcing from India. At NIFT, she has served as Course Coordinator for undergraduate (BFT) and postgraduate (MFT) programmes and has undertaken institutional responsibilities including Hindi Nodal Officer, Nodal Officer for Admissions, and Link-Regional Industry Coordinator.
Her research interests span quality and process improvement, textile recycling, post-consumer textile waste, circular economy, sustainable fashion and textile value chains, responsible consumption, and sustainability-oriented business models. Her research employs qualitative and mixed-method approaches, informed by an interpretivist orientation, to develop contextual understanding of organizational, industry, and stakeholder perspectives. She has published 5 peer-reviewed journal articles, 7 international book chapters, 3 published case studies, and 10+ conference papers and proceedings. Her academic contributions have also been recognized with the Best Paper Award at NICOM 2025.
Dr. Chopra has mentored more than 60 graduation projects, with over 30 addressing sustainability, circularity, supply chain optimization, waste reduction, and market-linked initiatives. She actively engages with industry through applied research, student projects, field studies, and academic–industry collaborations. She also contributes to sustainability, circularity, craft development, and responsible fashion initiatives through research, mentoring, and collaborative engagement.
