NIFT’s academic strategy deeply embraces global internationalism. Over the years, NIFT has consciously increased its international visibility and standing among highly reputable fashion institutes worldwide. The institute maintains strategic agreements and key partnerships with twenty-five leading international fashion organisations sharing similar academic goals. This robust network provides NIFT students with unique opportunities to integrate seamlessly into the global mainstream of fashion. By participating in reciprocal exchange programs with collaborating partner institutes, students gain vital exposure to modern fashion trends. Simultaneously, it offers international students a plethora of excellent study abroad options at NIFT, fostering a dynamic environment of collaborative learning.
These initiatives offer incredible learning opportunities for domestic and international students to interact across various geographies, broadening their horizons while building deep cross-cultural sensitivity. This unique study abroad opportunity remains wide open to international applicants across all twenty NIFT campuses and diverse course disciplines. Furthermore, the specialised I&DL framework enables NIFT professors to actively participate in academic exchange programs, international fairs, seminars, exhibits, conferences and major trade events. The exchange of students with partner institutions takes place either for a semester or for 2-3 weeks as a short-term programme in summer or in the form of one-year dual degrees programme. I&DL supports the exchange activities both for incoming foreign students and outgoing NIFT students.

Strategic partnership of NIFT with Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York, USA allows selection of meritorious students from NIFT for a unique opportunity to obtain a Dual Degree from both NIFT and FIT. Students from NIFT undertake two years study at the home Institute (NIFT), intercepted by study of one year at FIT; following which they complete their final year at NIFT.

The cooperation under these MoUs includes the exchange of students, faculty members and staff of the partner institutes; promotion of lectures, workshops, seminars and exhibitions; exchange of information, academic resources and publications; and undertaking other mutually beneficial academic and professional activities.

The Independence Day Flag Hoisting Ceremony was organized at NIFT Bhubaneswar on 15 August 2026. The National Flag was hoisted by Prof. (Dr.) Vibhavari Kumar, Director, NIFT Bhubaneswar, in the presence of students, faculty members, officers and staff. The ceremony began with collective singing of Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana, after the flag was hoisted. The programme was conducted with due solemnity and patriotic fervor, reflecting the NIFT community’s respect for the National Flag and the spirit of Independence Day.
The Flag Hoisting Ceremony constituted the central ceremonial component of the Independence Day celebrations at NIFT Bhubaneswar on 15 August 2026. The National Flag was hoisted by Dr. Vibhavari Kumar, Director, NIFT Bhubaneswar, in the presence of students, faculty members, officers and staff of the Institute. The ceremony commenced with the collective singing of the National Song, Vande Mataram. Following the hoisting of the National Flag, the participants joined in singing the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana. Dr. Vibhavari Kumar, Director, NIFT, Bhubaneswar delivered a speech about Independence Day highlighting the important role of individuals in nation building. The proceedings were conducted with due solemnity and patriotic fervor, maintaining the dignity associated with the national occasion. The participation of the wider NIFT community demonstrated respect for the National Flag and reflected the spirit of Independence Day. The ceremony also served as a common platform for students and members of the Institute to come together in observance of the national celebration. NIFT Bhubaneswar celebrated Handloom Week by bringing together tradition, craftsmanship, creativity, sustainability, and contemporary fashion. The week-long celebration engaged students with India’s rich handloom heritage through discussions, workshops, demonstrations, competitions, and fashion activities.
Panel Discussion – 05 August 2026: The celebration began with a panel discussion featuring Ms. Lipsa Hembram, Dr. Anita Sabat, Ms. Shashirekha Mohanta, and Shri Surendra Ku. Patra. The session explored the cultural significance, challenges, and future of handloom textiles.
Handloom Quiz – 06 August 2026: Students tested their knowledge of Indian handlooms, textiles, crafts, and weaving traditions, encouraging greater awareness of textile heritage.
Weaving Workshop & Live Demonstration – 07 August 2026: Students experienced traditional weaving firsthand and gained insight into the skill, precision, patience, and dedication behind handwoven textiles.
30-Second Ad Competition – 07 August 2026: Students promoted handloom through creative storytelling, visuals, and contemporary advertising concepts.
Thrift Stall – 10–11 August 2026: The initiative highlighted sustainable fashion, reuse, conscious consumption, and responsible practices.
Handloom Styling Competition & Fashion Show – 13 August 2026: Students and faculty reinterpreted handloom through contemporary silhouettes, draping, accessories, styling, and expressive presentations, demonstrating its versatility and relevance to modern fashion.
Overall, Handloom Week successfully connected India’s textile heritage with education, sustainability, creativity, and contemporary fashion, encouraging students to appreciate, reinterpret, and promote handloom in new and meaningful ways.
