FACETS '21: The Graduation showcase of Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories Department.
NIFT is the pioneering institute of fashion education in the country and has been in the vanguard of providing professional human resource to the textile and apparel industry. The Institute is a leader in fashion education with the ability to integrate knowledge, traditional arts, contemporary thought, academic freedom, innovations in design & technology and creative thinking to continuously upgrade its curriculum to address the changing needs of the industry. Its history of more than three decades at the pinnacle of fashion education stands as a testimony to its focus on core values where academic excellence has been nurtured.
The one of a kind Accessory Design (AD) Programme, offered by the Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories (F&LA) Department, prepares design professionals with embedded fashion knowledge, to offer innovations across myriad platforms spanning jewelry, crafts, personal accessories, soft goods and work gear. Accessory Design programme is a career based education that is relevant today and has the ability to address the changing future scenario.
As an important academic activity of this programme, the students of final year are required to undergo Graduation Project of 16 weeks in various Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories industry. Throughout this project the students get hands-on training and practical experience of working in a professional environment to develop a greater understanding of design development process through the exposure to real-world challenges. The students are exposed at various levels within the industry that includes exposure to the production processes, new materials and technology and many more, to develop a foresight that every Accessory designer must have. The final year students are mentored and supported to take on the graduation project in different industries of their choice ranging from fine jewelry to visual communication and UI/UX.
To celebrate their talents and academic achievements during Graduation project, the department of F&LA Gandhinagar organizes a Graduation Showcase event “FACETS” for the graduating batch every year. This year too, the F&LA department is proud to announce FACETS-21 for the Graduating Batch of 2017-21. Through FACETS ‘21, the F&LA department successfully presents the achievement of all dynamic and motivated students who were mentored and guided by great academic and industry experts from a number of different industries varying from Jewelry to visual communication and UI UX, and also celebrates their take on graduation projects in their own individualistic styles.
This year F&LA department collaborated with myriad of industries and helped in placing the graduating batch to successfully complete their graduation projects in prestigious organizations like Tanishq, Titan Company Ltd, Walking Tree Ventures, PCJ, Outhouse, QED42, Kama Schachter, Rathod Jewellery, HK Jewellery, Hidesign, MBMG, RBZ, HDSL, ANC Lifestyle, Central etc. The graduating students developed an in-depth understanding through exposure to emerging challenges, developments, techniques, technology and practice from their experiences in the professional industrial environment.
Facets 2021 also celebrates the determination and approach of the students during these tough covid times, those who had the courage to take forward their endeavors in new and unusual ways only to deliver their best, which was very well appreciated by the industry.
A message from the Chairperson for the Accessory Design (AD) graduating batch
Dear Graduating Students of Accessory Design,
It is indeed a very proud moment for all us that you are finally getting awarded with degrees and are entering a new phase of your professional life, despite the hurdles you have been facing for the last one and half years due to the Covid pandemic's first and second waves. I am sure that the acquired knowledge, developed skills and a positive attitude through projects and research you gained in the Institution will benefit you in your personal and professional career. The sensitization you got towards best practices in the area of traditional and conventional craft practices through direct exposure is an added advantage.
You have been very well equipped to use your right and left hemispheres of brain in the best possible balanced way to generate ideas and then convert them into viable products, processes and services. I am sure your acquired and practiced multidisciplinary knowledge will help you to reach the noble goals you have been aspiring for and will make the institution proud of you.
Society needs responsible accessory designers and academicians. I hope you will grab the right opportunities and will support the future development of the appellation of the Accessory Design Department and the Institution.
