What is INDIAsize?

INDIAsize is a scientific research aimed at collection of anthropometric data from a statistically justified sample to create a database of measurements which is a true representative of the entire Indian population. The data will result in a creation of Size identification number for a customer through mapping, categorization and defining of their body shape and size thereby creating a body size standard for Indian population.

Know More

With 1.38 Billion people, India is a country of extraordinary diversity with varied body sizes and shapes. The apparel retailers are facing increased product returns, walk outs from the store with no purchases, loss of sales because of non-availability of right sizes in the stores and disgruntled customers. The need for standardization of human body sizing is paramount important. INDIAsize will provide comprehensive representation of the body shape and size of the entire population.

Approximately 25000 (Twenty Five Thousand) male and female persons between the age group of 15 years and 65 years will be measured in six different cities located in six regions of India i.e. New Delhi (North India), Mumbai (West India), Chennai (South India), Hyderabad (Central India), Kolkata (East India) and Shillong (North-East India).

INDIAsize targets data collection from Indian male and female persons to capture precise segment of sample pool like region, age, sex, religion, income etc to truly call it a pan India survey.

INDIAsize survey will be undertaken using human-safe, latest 3D whole body scanning technology. This scanning system captures the full body of a participant in three dimensions within 10 seconds to extract accurate body measurements. The participant will be scanned in two postures in a specifically designed scan suit.

Standing Posture

Sitting Posture

  •  Measurement will be collected using with 3D whole body scanners
  •  Socio-Demographic questionnaire will be used to capture relevant data
  •  More than 100 measurements will be collected per individual
  •  Scanning will be undertaken in 2 posture -1 standing and 1 seated
  •  Measurements collected will be in accordance with ISO 8559 (Anthropometric definitions for body measurement) and some measurements of ISO 7250 ( Basic human body measurements for technological design)
  •  Other ISO standards being followed are ISO 20685 (3D scanning methodologies for internationally compatible anthropometric data bases)

Scanner

The INDIAsize project aims to replace the current scenario of poor sizing to address the problems of returns and loss of sales. The size chart thus created will help in better fitting garments for consumers which will not only help increase business for Indian apparel industry but also for International brands that enter the domestic market as they would be able to better cater to the Indian consumer. This would prove to be a boon for both the apparel sector and the Indian consumer.

3D whole body scanner uses Class1 Laser which is safe under all conditions of normal use.
The personal information collected during the study will be kept confidential to the full extent and will never be shared. Anthropometric data collected will be recorded against a unique barcode and will have no personal identifying information. The scanned data will be stored only in Government approved cloud services or NIFT cloud services dedicated for this project. No reference will be made of the participants name or identification in any oral or written reports to maintain privacy.

Participants will be getting a gift voucher and the scanning attire as a token of gratitude, on completion of the scanning process, for participating in the survey.
