Encompassing a wide range of categories like Fashion Apparel, Footwear, and Accessories, the leather design department at N.I.F.T empowers its graduates to take on diverse careers in today’s dynamic fashion scenario. Initially focussing only on leather as a material, currently, the course includes knowledge sharing and exploration of a wide variety of new-age materials. Integration of design and material is emphasized. Students experiment with materials, techniques, surfaces, forms, and components through field trips, tannery training, Craft Cluster programs, industry internships, and graduation projects. Students have taken key roles as team players or entrepreneurs in new areas like furniture, jewellery, lifestyle products, and corporate gifting and have even made a mark in the niche area of Fetish clothing. Its structure and application to fashion clothing, footwear, and accessories make NIFT's Leather Design Program unique. The course is currently being offered at four, well-equipped strategic campuses namely, Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi, and Raebareli.
