Bringing to the limelight historical and contemporary photography from India and the subcontinent, the Chennai Photo Biennale is organized by the CBP Foundation. Through this international photography festival, this non-profit charitable trust aims to create mentorship opportunities and provide residencies and scholarships for young photographers and curators. This year, the 2nd edition of the Chennai Photo Biennale is scheduled between 22 February- 24 March, 2019. NIFT, Chennai's association with Chennai Photo Biennale has been growing strong since November 2018. Beginning with its students volunteering for workshops, as writers for their promotional campaigns and tour guides for their exhibits, the collaboration culminated into a large scale photo exhibition at the foyer of the local railway station of Thiruvanmiyur Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). To execute the prestigious project, a team of students from across the departments of NIFT, Chennai was formed, under the mentorship of five faculties. Conceptualized as a Community Art Photo Project, the local community was involved by NIFT, Chennai, at every step. The aim was to put Chennai's fashion on the global map. Overcoming all operational obstacles of converting a functional space into an exhibit area, NIFT Chennai shone through the journey. Its initiative was appreciated in several city newspapers– The Hindu Metroplus and The New Indian Express, Chennai, to name a few.
