Nippon Paint collaborated with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to develop a home color forecast for India that is focused on the culture, climate, ethnography, origin, demography and socio-political environ of the region. The project keeps in mind the essence of India– ‘unity in diversity’. At NIFT, Dr. KaustavSenGupta, Associate Professor and color expert is leading it. The Nippon ColorVision development is underway and deploys neuro-color-image study and qualitative deep-dive research, for the forecast. The North and South zones will be the two primary regions of the proposed forecast, to begin with. The first zonal color forecast is to be launched by April/May 2019. It will be an open source and can be accessed by public for free from the Nippon website.
As part of the project, NIFT Chennai organized a first-of-its-kind, pre-curated national-level event that witnessed participation from film industry stalwarts like AvijitDutt and SaloniBatra, fashion designers like VivekKarunakaran and Tina Vincent, youth influencers, bloggers, vloggers, YouTubers, environmentalists and media heads, among others. The event, titled India’s “State of Mind”was marked by intense discussions and insightful deliberations. Both Nippon and NIFT are hopeful that the forecast will be useful for architects, home-décor product designers, interior designers, start-ups, academics, students and design enthusiasts.
