National Institute of Fashion Technology announces a call for research articles for the fifth volume of the 'NIFT Journal of Fashion'. Each volume of the annual peer reviewed open access research journal has a definite theme of wide-ranging significance on different aspects of fashion with critical thinking on multiple perspectives of relevance to the wider academia and fashion industry.

Theme: Fashion with Purpose: Design for Self, Society and Nation

The theme ‘Fashion with Purpose: Design for Self, Society and Nation’ investigates how fashion serves as a medium of self-expression, supports social responsibility, and contributes to nation-building. Within the context, the theme also reflects on well-being across micro- and macro-ecosystems. Fashion for self entails clothing as an individual identity that enhances physical, social, and psychological comfort. Nurturing society encompasses ethical practices and contribution to culture; inclusivity and diversity; equal opportunities; and empowering communities to boost economic development. We welcome articles that reflect on the larger role of fashion in contributing to personal and collective identities and emotional and social well-being, thus fostering the overall growth of a nation and a promising future. The contributions can address (but are not limited to) one or more of the following sub-themes:

  • The psychology of fashion: Self-perception and identity
  • Therapeutic fashion for mental and emotional well-being
  • Body positivity through Inclusive design
  • Adaptive clothing to address different needs
