To boost creative thinking and give impetus to new product ideas, Council for Leather Exports (CLE) organized a leather design competition. Leather Design Department of NIFT-Chennai participated enthusiastically through its 37 entries in the contest. Six of its students swept the competition by bagging awards in some of the major categories! The details of the awards and accolades are as under:

• Urvashi Verma (batch 2014-18) won the first prize in two categories– Best Leather Design-Small Leather Goods and Best Leather Garment and Accessory Design
• Supriya Kumari (batch 2014-18) won first prizes in Best Leather Garment Design-Fashion Garment and Best Leather Garment Design- Trendy Garment categories, and the second prize in Best Leather Garment and Accessory Design
• Anu Singh (batch 2015-19) won the first position in the Best Leather Goods Design- Handbags category
• Mishra Bhanu Ravindrakumar (batch 2016-20) won the first prize in the Best Leather Garment Design-Corset category and second position in the Best Leather Goods Design- Handbags category
• Annu Kumari (batch 2016-20) won the first place in the Best Leather Goods Design-Hobo Bag category
• Alida Merlin Xavier (batch 2016-20) won the first prize in the Best Leather Garment Design- Trendy Garment category
