Dr. Madan Lal Regar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Jodhpur, and is associated with the UI–ERP initiative. He has also served as the Center Coordinator of Fashion Design at NIFT Jodhpur. With more than 10 years of teaching and research experience, his areas of expertise include textile technology, textiles and crafts, fashion, handloom and handicrafts, textile engineering, functional and protective textiles, and sustainable textile practices. He holds a PhD in Textile Technology, an M.Tech, and a B.Tech (Honours).
Dr. Regar’s research focuses on sustainability, craft documentation, handloom and handicrafts, textile engineering, and functional and protective textiles. He publishes in SCI-, Scopus-, and other refereed indexed journals and presents research on Rajasthan’s crafts and textiles at international conferences. He contributes chapters to academic publications, including Traditional Textiles of the Indian Subcontinent published by Springer Nature. He has authored and edited four books, including Textile Calculation: Fibre to Finished Garment, published by Elsevier. He also serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for reputed academic journals.
Dr. Regar conducts extensive field research with artisans, documenting traditional craft processes and exploring their contemporary applications. His work promotes sustainability, innovation, and cultural preservation by connecting traditional knowledge with contemporary textile and fashion practices. Through teaching, research, fieldwork, and academic engagement, he contributes to the advancement of textile education and the preservation of India’s rich craft heritage.
