ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is organizing an international conference on the theme ‘Rediscovering Culture: Transforming Fashion’ at New Delhi from 31st January to 2nd February 2018. The conference theme is dual-pronged, reflecting the issues and concerns of the fashion industry that are of relevance within the Indian subcontinent and also globally. It aims to initiate conversations on fashion, culture, textiles, crafts and sustainability by creating an interdisciplinary platform to share perspectives and practice-led research experiences on transforming fashion practices. It is envisaged that within the ambit of cultural rediscovery, the forum will initiate transglobal cultural narratives that impact and are, in turn, impacted by issues and concerns, innovations, challenges encountered and solutions formulated by the fashion industry.
CONFERENCE DETAILS
- Provide a platform for sharing perspectives, research experiences and best practices among the participating institutions, academia, industry and other practitioners;
- Enhance knowledge dissemination of the human-material-process resources;
- Establish inter-institutional linkages for future initiatives on issues of common interest and concerns;
- Determine areas of collaborative endeavours and research by the academic community;
- Incorporate cultural activities to create an ’India experience’ for the international participants that will situate the conference within the socio-cultural-academic ethos of India. The pre and post-events include a fashion show, live craft demonstration workshop by artisans, local visit to places of historical interest and cultural evening.

The venue of the conference is India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
